  • 1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 1 to 2 tsp sambar powder
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 2 to 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • salt to taste
  • Optional:
  • Grated raw mango
  • Grated carrots
  • Roasted peanuts

How to make Charmbura Upkari/Spicy Murmura with Coconut Masala

  1. In a mixing bowl, add grated coconut ,sambar powder, green onions, red onions, coriander leaves, coconut oil and salt to taste.
  2. Give it a good mix, do a taste test and adjust sambar powder and salt.
  3. Stir in crispy murmura into the coconut mixture and mix well with your hands. Serve immediately with hot chai/coffee!

My Tip:

It is best served fresh as the puffed rice will get soggy if let sit in the serving plate. Adjust the amount of sambar powder, coconut oil and coconut according to preference. During mango season, you can add grated raw mango too. Other add ins are grated carrot and roasted peanuts.
