Unnakkaya

Ingredients to make Unnakkaya

  • banana - 2 nos
  • coconut - 1 cup
  • ghee - 1 tsp
  • rice flakes / poha - 4 tsp
  • sugar to taste
  • cashew nuts powdered - 2 tsp
  • raisins - 2 tsp
  • oil to fry

How to make Unnakkaya

  1. Boil the banana, peel off the skin and mash it well. Keep aside.
  2. Heat ghee in a frying pan, then add the cashew nut, raisins and coconut. Then add sugar and mix well.
  3. Next, add rice flakes, then mix it and remove from heat. Let the mixture cool.
  4. Grease your hands with ghee or oil and make small balls from the banana mixture, press little and stuff the coconut mixture. Seal both ends and give shape to Unnakkaya.
  5. Heat oil and deep fry these bananas. Drain excess oil on kitchen towels.
  6. Serve them hot!

My Tip:

Crushed cardamon or powder can be added to the mixture. If you find the banana mixture very moist add bread crumbs and then make balls.
