Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 Kg of any firm flesh sea fish (Pomfret, Seer, White salmon) , cleaned and sliced as per choice
  2. I cup freshly grated coconut (1/2 of a regular sized coconut)
  3. 1 big onion (1/2 chopped and 1/2 diced)
  4. 1/2 tsp turmeric
  5. 2-3 tspns red chilli powder (adjust as per spice preference)
  6. 1 tblspn coriander seeds
  7. 4 peppercorns
  8. 1 lemon sized ball of tamarind
  9. 1/2 inch ginger thinly sliced
  10. 2-3 slit green chillies
  11. salt as per taste
  12. 2-3 tspns oil

Instructions

  1. Wash fish pieces thoroughly and marinate with a tspn of turmeric, 1 tspn red chilli powder and a bit of salt. Keep aside for around 15 minutes
  2. In a wet grinder combine together coconut, 1/2 diced onion, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander seeds, peppercorns and tamarind. Add in a some water (around half cup) to assist grinding and grind to a smooth paste.
  3. Place a deep bottomed vessel on the stove and add any oil.
  4. Add in the chopped onion and saute till it changes color to brown
  5. Add in ground masala and saute for 2 minutes
  6. Add in as much water as the required to get a gravy consistency. Add in salt and let the gravy come to a roaring boil
  7. Once the gravy boils , lower the flame to minimum and add in the fish pieces.
  8. Add in slit green chillies and sliced ginger. Increase the flame and get the curry to a boil.
  9. Once it boils , lower the flame to minimum , cover the vessel and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  10. After 10 minutes, check for salt and switch off the flame. Serve this curry with piping hot steamed rice.
