About Urulaikizhangu Baji Recipe

Urulaikizhangu( Tamil ) / potato Baji is a popular TamilNadu tea time snack . Very wholesome snack for kids .

Urulaikizhangu Baji

Ingredients to make Urulaikizhangu Baji

  • potatoes big 2 cut into round thin discs .
  • besan flour 1 cup
  • Corn flour 1/ 2 cup
  • salt as required
  • red chilli powder 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • hing 1/2 teaspoon
  • coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • oil for Deep frying
  • water needed to mix batter .

How to make Urulaikizhangu Baji

  1. Wash the potatoes . Cut into round slices .
  2. In a bowl , take the flours , dry powders , salt , hing .
  3. Mix all into a smooth Baji batter . Shouldn’t be thick nor runny . Must coat the potatoes .
  4. Heat oil in a kadai .
  5. Take the potato slices one by one and dip into the batter . See to that the potatoes are coated well with the batter .
  6. Drop the coated potatoes into the hot oil .
  7. Fry under medium flame . Fry both the sides till golden colour .
  8. Serve hot with hot tea / coffee .

My Tip:

Drain the potatoes completely before coating .
