Spinach Dal curry( Paruppu keerai )

Ingredients to make Spinach Dal curry( Paruppu keerai )

  • masoor dal 2 cups
  • water 3 large glasses
  • garlic cloves 9
  • hing 1 teaspoon
  • onion 1 big sized chopped
  • tomatoes ripe medium 2 chopped
  • turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt as required
  • cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • ghee 1 tablespoon
  • Red chillies 3
  • curry leaves 10
  • spinach ( Paruppu keerai / Dal spinach) 2 bunches

How to make Spinach Dal curry( Paruppu keerai )

  1. Cook 2 cups masoor dal with 3 large glasses of water ,1 teaspoon hing , chopped onions ,turmeric .
  2. Add 9 garlic cloves , chopped tomatoes , salt and cook all together . Once the dal gets cooked completely . Then add chopped spinach .
  3. Cook for 5 minutes till the spinach cooks . Don’t overcook. Spinach may turn dark and unpleasant .
  4. Heat a pan . Heat ghee , splutter mustard seeds
  5. Curry leaves 10, red chillies 3 cumin seed a teaspoon. Pour the tadka to the prepared Dal.
  6. Spinach Dal curry ready

My Tip:

Don’t cook the spinach for a long time . Nutrients gets lost . Light colour is always preferable.
