ABOUT Modak RECIPE

Modak is the favourite food of lord Ganesha . Modak is a very famous sweet from Maharshatra . It is prepared on Ganeshotava celebration in Maharashtra. Modak can be prepared in different ways. They can be steamed or fried. Modak can be made with coconut filling or without coconut filling . I have made the classic one with coconut and jaggery filling .

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Rice flour 1 cup
  2. 1 Cup water
  3. 2 tsp ghee / clarified butter
  4. 1 tsp Salt
  5. Powdered jaggery half cup
  6. Some raisins chopped
  7. Some almonds chopped
  8. Roasted Poppy seeds 2 tsp
  9. Fresh coconut grated Half cup

Instructions

  1. First step is outer layer - Take a pot and put 1 cup water in it. When the water starts boiling, add 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp ghee in to it. Now add rice flour into it, mix well. Turn off the gas, cover it with plate. Keep this aside.
  2. Now for filling - Take a pan and add 1 tsp ghee, then add jaggery into it . When the jaggery starts melting, add poppy seeds, coconut, almonds and raisins. Mix all the ingredients well. Filling is ready.
  3. Now remove the cover of the rice flour dough. Mash this dough with greased hands and make soft doughs.
  4. Take a small ball size dough, press the edges with your fingers and make a small disc. Put the coconut filling in the center and mould it into a modak. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
  5. Now take a steamer. Put these modaks on a steamer thali. Steam these modaks for about 15 minutes.
  6. Serve hot or chilled.
