How to make Modak

  1. First step is outer layer - Take a pot and put 1 cup water in it. When the water starts boiling, add 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp ghee in to it. Now add rice flour into it, mix well. Turn off the gas, cover it with plate. Keep this aside.
  2. Now for filling - Take a pan and add 1 tsp ghee, then add jaggery into it . When the jaggery starts melting, add poppy seeds, coconut, almonds and raisins. Mix all the ingredients well. Filling is ready.
  3. Now remove the cover of the rice flour dough. Mash this dough with greased hands and make soft doughs.
  4. Take a small ball size dough, press the edges with your fingers and make a small disc. Put the coconut filling in the center and mould it into a modak. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.
  5. Now take a steamer. Put these modaks on a steamer thali. Steam these modaks for about 15 minutes.
  6. Serve hot or chilled.
My Tip: You can add the filling of your choice and can fry them too.
