About Chinese Pan Fried Baozi Buns Recipe

Baozi is known as Bao, Bau, Bakpao, Pao, this steamed or pan fried buns made with yeast is quite known in chinese cuisine with different fillings.

Chinese Pan Fried Baozi Buns

Ingredients to make Chinese Pan Fried Baozi Buns

  • Dough:
  • 4cups all purpose flour+extra flour (for dusting)
  • 1tsp Instant yeast
  • 1tsp sugar
  • 1+1/2cups Lukewarm water
  • chicken & Carrot Filling
  • 1cup Minced chicken meat
  • 1tsp Sesame oil
  • 1tbsp Light soya sauce
  • 3tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1/4tsp White pepper powder
  • 1/4tsp salt
  • 3large carrots (grated finely)
  • 3tbsp oil
  • 1cup Chopped scallions
  • 2tsp Grated ginger
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1tsp Sesame oil
  • 1tsp Rice vinegar
  • For Panfrying:
  • 2tbsp oil
  • 1/4cup water
  • Handful of Chopped scallion
  • 2tsp Toasted sesame seeds

How to make Chinese Pan Fried Baozi Buns

  1. Take the flour, yeast, sugar in a bowl, slowly add the lukewarm water and knead the flour until the dough turns smooth.
  2. Cover the bowl with a damp kitchen towel and let it sit for an hour to proof.
  3. Take the ground chicken in a bowl, add in the sesame oil,light soya sauce, cooking oil, white pepper powder, salt, mix everything well and keep aside.
  4. Heat the oil, add the grated carrots and sauté until they gets cooked but not mushy.
  5. Take the grounded chicken mixture, sauteed carrot in a bowl, add in the chopped scallion, grated ginger,salt, sesame oil, rice vinegar and mix everything again.
  6. Your filling is ready now.
  7. Punch down the proofed dough and knead for few minutes, divide the dough into medium sized balls.
  8. Take each ball, dust with flour and roll it as round circle with thinner edge and thicker center.
  9. Put some filling to the center and start folding the dough as shown in the picture bu pleating the edges of the dough like an accordion. Seal the edges tightly on the top.
  10. Lay the buns on a floured surface until you finish with the dough balls.
  11. Heat a pan over a medium heat, add the oil to the pan to coat evenly and add the buns to the pan.
  12. Let it cook for few minutes in simmer until the bottom turns golden brown.
  13. Add the water,cover the pan and put the flame in simmer, cook for 7-8minutes.
  14. Now add chopped scallion, toasted sesame seeds to the buns and toss it well. Enjoy warm.
