Ingredients to make Kanda Bhaji

  • 1/2 cup besan
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • A pinch of baking soda (or a little more)
  • 1/4 tsp Carom Seeds/Ajwain
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup Onion thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • salt as per taste

How to make Kanda Bhaji

  1. Firstly peel and cut the onion in very thin slices. Keep aside. Use medium sized onions.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl take gram flour and rice flour and mix together.
  3. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, baking soda, carom seeds and start mixing adding small quantities of water.
  4. Make a very thick batter, add in the sliced onions and mix well. Keep aside for a few minutes.
  5. In a large frying pan, heat sufficient oil for deep frying. Add spoonfuls of the battered onion into the hot oil and deep fry until golden brown on all side.
  6. Drain on a kitchen towel and serve hot with Ketchup and 'garam chai'.

My Tip:

Use medium sized onions for convenience.
