Tamarind Rice

Ingredients to make Tamarind Rice

  • 1 Teaspoon of Musted seeds
  • 2 teaspoon of urudu dal
  • 2 teaspoon of channa dal
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoon of White sesmi seed
  • 2 teaspoon of coriander seeds
  • 6-8 RED CHILLIES
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon of hing
  • 1teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 3 Tablespoons of Gingerly oil
  • One Lemon sized tamarind
  • 2 Cups of water
  • 300 grams of cooked white rice

How to make Tamarind Rice

  1. HEAT A NONSTICK PAN, ADD 1 TSP EACH OF CHANA DAL & URAD DAL
  2. ADD 1/4 TSP EACH OF FENUGREEK SEEDS & PEPPERCORNS, ROAST
  3. ADD 2 TSP CORIANDER SEEDS, 1 TSP SESAME SEEDS
  4. ADD 6-8 DRY RED CHILLIES, ROAST UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN, COOL & GRIND THE MASALA
  5. MAKE A FINE POWDER LIKE THIS, SET ASIDE
  6. SOAK 1 LEMON SIZED BALL OF TAMARIND FOR 30 MINS, SEPERATE THE PULP
  7. DRAIN THE JUICE & KEEP ASIDE
  8. HEAT 3 TBSP OIL, ADD 1 TSP EACH OF MUSTARD SEEDS & URAD DAL
  9. ADD 1 TSP CHANA DAL, 2 TSP PEANUTS, 3 DRY RED CHILLIES, SAUTE UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN
  10. ADD A FEW CURRY LEAVES , A PINCH OF ASAFOETIDA
  11. ADD 1 TSP TURMERIC POWDER, SAUTE ON LOW HEAT
  12. ADD SALT TO TASTE, THE READY TAMARIND JUICE, SIMMER FOR 10-15 MINS
  13. ADD THE GROUND MASALA POWDER, BOIL FOR 7-10 MINS
  14. THE TAMARIND SAUCE IS READY, TAKE OFF HEAT
  15. POUR THIS OVER 300 GMS BOILED RICE
  16. MIX WELL
  17. THE TAMARIND RICE IS READY
  18. ENJOY!
