About Bengali Chichinga Dal Recipe

Very easy recipe for everyday meal , but very delicious and healthy dal. Bengali dals are nomally thin which are made with vegetables . You can use other vegetable like bottle gourd , ridge gourd instead of snake gourd .

Bengali Chichinga Dal

Ingredients to make Bengali Chichinga Dal

  • Toor dal 1 cup
  • Snake gourd 3 nos small
  • Green chilli 2
  • spices :
  • Dry red chilli 2
  • Panch phoron 1 tsp
  • bay leaf 1
  • Dry spices powder:
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Dry mango powder 1 tsp
  • hing 1/4 tsp
  • ginger powder 1/2 tsp
  • mustard oil
  • ghee 1 tsp
  • salt as per your taste
  • sugar as per your taste

How to make Bengali Chichinga Dal

  1. WASH AND SOAK 1 CUP OF TOOR IN 2 CUPS OF WATER FOR 1 HOUR
  2. PEEL THE SKIN OF SNAKE GOURD , CUT IN HALF . REMOVE SEEDS ,CUT IN THIN SEMICIRCLES
  3. ADD SOAKED DAL IN PRESSURE COOKER . ADD 250 ML OF WATER , ADD 1 TSP OIL ALSO ( NOT IN THE VIDEO)
  4. ADD 1/4 TSP TURMERIC POWDER AND 1/2 TSP SALT
  5. PRESSURE COOK FOR 1 WHISTLE IN LOW HEAT , KEEP ASIDE TO RELEASE THE VAPOUR AUTOMATICALLY
  6. HEAT 2 TSP OIL IN A DEEP PAN
  7. ADD 2 NOS. DRY RED CHILLI , SAUTE FOR 30 SECONDS OR UNTIL THEY TURN SLIGHT BLACK
  8. ADD 1 TSP OF PAANCHPHORON AND 1 BAY LEAF , SAUTE FOR 30 SECONDS IN MEDIUM HEAT
  9. ADD 1 TSP CORIANDER POWDER, 1 TSP CUMIN POWDER AND 1/2 TSP GINGER POWDER (OPTIONAL )
  10. ADD 1/3 TSP TURMERIC POWDER
  11. ADD CUT PIECES OF CHICHINGA , MIX WELL WITH THE SPICES
  12. ADD 1 TSP SALT
  13. ADD 2 GREEN CHILLIES
  14. ADD 1 TSP AAMCHOOR POWDER AND 1/3 TSP HING , SAUTE IN LOW HEAT FOR 5 MINS
  15. COVER AND COOK FOR 5 MINS IN LOW HEAT OR UNTIL VEGETABLES ARE SOFT
  16. THE DAL IS READY TO MIX WITH THE VEGETABLE
  17. ADD BOILED DAL TO THE PAN
  18. BOIL DAL AND VEGETABLES IN HIGH HEAT FOR 5_7 MINS
  19. CHICHINGA DAL IS READY NOW , YOU CAN ADD 1 TSP SUGAR AT THIS STAGE
  20. SWITCH OFF GAS , ADD 1 TSP GHEE . YOU CAN GARNISH WITH CHOPPED CORIANDER LEAVES
