Dal Bati is a famous delicious food of Rajasthan. A perfect lunch for a lazy sunday before a siesta.

Dal Bati

Ingredients to make Dal Bati

  • 2 cups of wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 1/2 tsp soda
  • 100 GMS ghee
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp ajwain
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups arhar dal
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 onion
  • 1 large tomato
  • Chopped fresh coriander 1/2 cup

How to make Dal Bati

  1. IN A MIXING BOWL ADD 2 CUPS OF WHEAT FLOUR, 1/2 CUP SEMOLINA.
  2. ADD SALT TO TASTE, 1 TSP AJWAIN, 1/2 TSP BAKING SODA.
  3. ADD 1 00 GMS PURE GHEE, MIX ALL.
  4. KNEAD FLOUR WITH WARM WATER.
  5. AT A TIME ADD LITTLE WATER, KNEAD SOFT DOUGH.
  6. KEEP ASIDE FOR 15 MINUTES.
  7. HEAT 2 TBSP GHEE ADD 1 TSP CUMIN SEEDS, 1 TSP MUSTARD SEEDS, 2 GREEN CHILLIES.
  8. ADD 1/4 TSP ASAFOETIDA, 5 CLOVES GARLIC CHOPPED, 1 TSP GINGER GRATED.
  9. ONCE THEY SPLUTTER ADD 1 CHOPPED ONION. COOK TILL ONION TURN GOLDEN AROUND THE EDGES.
  10. ADD 1 TSP TURMERIC, 1 TSP RED CHILLI POWDER, 1 TSP CORIANDER POWDER.
  11. ADD 1 CUP CHOPPED TOMATOES, SAUTE.
  12. COVER AND COOK TILL SOFT.
  13. NOW ADD 4 CUPS COOKED ARHAR DAL.
  14. LET IT BOIL FOR 5 MINUTES.
  15. ADD 1/2 CUP CHOPPED FRESH CORIANDER. KEEP ASIDE.
  16. KNEAD THE DOUGH AGAIN WITH PALM.
  17. MAKE BALLS EQUAL SIZED.
  18. MAKE BALLS LIKE THIS.
  19. KEEP BALLS IN A MEDIUM HOT TANDOOR TO BAKE.
  20. COVER AND COOK FOR 5 MINUTES ON LOW FLAME.
  21. FLIP ALL BATIES.
  22. COVER AGAIN FOR 5 MINUTES.
  23. COOKED BATI WILL HAVE CRACKS WHICH ARE NOTHING BUT THE CREASES THAT HAVE OPENED UP.
  24. NOW OFF THE HEAT.
  25. DIP ALL THE HOT BATIES IN GHEE, KEEP ASIDE FOR FEW MINUTES.
  26. SREVE HOT FRIED DAL.
  27. SERVE HOT BATIES.
  28. SERVE HOT DAL BATI WITH MORE GHEE.
