Dal Bati is a famous delicious food of Rajasthan. A perfect lunch for a lazy sunday before a siesta.

Dal Baati

Ingredients to make Dal Baati

  • 2 cups of wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup semolina
  • 1/2 tsp soda
  • 100 GMS ghee
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp ajwain
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 4 cups arhar dal
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 onion
  • 1 large tomato
  • Chopped fresh coriander 1/2 cup

How to make Dal Baati

  1. TAKE 2 CUPS WHEAT FLOUR, 1/2 CUP SEMOLINA
  2. ADD SALT TO TASTE, 1 TSP CAROM SEEDS, 1/2 TSP BAKING SODA
  3. ADD 100 GMS GHEE, MIX
  4. ADD SUFFICIENT WARM WATER, KNEAD A SOFT DOUGH
  5. SET ASIDE FOR 15 MINS
  6. KNEAD THE RESTED DOUGH AGAIN
  7. SHAPE INTO BALLS LIKE THIS
  8. BAKE THE BALLS IN A MEDIUM HOT TANDOOR
  9. COVER & COOK FOR 10 MINS ON LOW HEAT, FLIPPING THEM OVER ONCE IN BETWEEN
  10. THE BAATIS ARE DONE WHEN THEY TURN GOLDEN BROWN & DEVELOP CRACKS ON THE SURFACE LIKE THIS
  11. DIP ALL THE HOT BATIES IN GHEE, SET ASIDE FOR A FEW MINS
  12. HEAT 2 TBSP GHEE, ADD 1 TSP EACH OF CUMIN & MUSTARD SEEDS, 2 GREEN CHILLIES
  13. ADD 1/4 TSP ASAFOETIDA, 5 CHOPPED GARLIC CLOVES, 1 TSP GRATED GINGER
  14. ADD 1 CHOPPED ONION, FRY TILL GOLDEN BROWN
  15. ADD 1 TSP EACH OF TURMERIC, RED CHILLI & CORIANDER POWDERS
  16. ADD 1 CUP CHOPPED TOMATOES, COVER & COOK TILL SOFT
  17. ADD 4 CUPS COOKED ARHAR DAL, BOIL FOR 5 MINS
  18. ADD 1/2 CUP CHOPPED FRESH CORIANDER, TAKE OFF HEAT & KEEP ASIDE
  19. SERVE HOT WITH THE READY BATIS
