Palak dal

Ingredients to make Palak dal

  • spinach - 500 gms
  • Soaked chana dal - 270 gm
  • water - 4 cups
  • haldi - 1 tspn
  • red chilli powder - 1 tspn
  • tamarind paste - 1tspn
  • salt
  • For tempering
  • onions - 1
  • garlic - 4 to 5 cloves
  • mustard seeds -1 tspn
  • cumin seeds- 1 tspn
  • green chillies -1 to2
  • red chillies - 2 to 4
  • Tejpatta - 2
  • oil

How to make Palak dal

  1. SOAK THE CHANA DAL FOR HALF AN HOUR AND CHOP THE SPINACH.
  2. TRANSFER THE DAL ALONG WITH WATER IN PRESSURE COOKER.
  3. THEN ADD THE SPINACH.
  4. ADD HALDI.
  5. ADD RED CHILLI POWDER.
  6. ADD SALT AND TAMARIND PASTE.
  7. MIX WELL AND ALLOW IT TO COOK TILL 3 TO 4 WHISTLES.
  8. ONCE ITS DONE, OPEN THE LID AND COOK FOR 2 MIN TO REMOVE EXCESS WATER.
  9. PREPARE CHOPPED ONIONS, GARLIC, MUSTARD SEEDS, CUMIN, TEJPATTA, RED AND GREEN CHILLIES.
  10. MEANWHILE THE DAL IS READY, SWITCH OFF THE FLAME.
  11. HEAT OIL IN A PAN.
  12. ADD THE PREPARED INGREDIENTS AND COOK.
  13. SAUTE THE ONIONS AND GARLIC TILL TRANSLUCENT.
  14. TRANSFER IT TO THE PALAK DAL AND MIX WELL.
