Prawn Aamto

Ingredients to make Prawn Aamto

  • 2 raw mangoes
  • 2 medium onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 green chillies (slit lengthwise)
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 2 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 100 gms prawns/ shrimp (cleaned)
  • 1 cup fresh grated coconut
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • salt to taste

How to make Prawn Aamto

  1. Peel and wash the mangoes. Cut into thin slices, leaving a little flesh around the seed. Apply salt and keep aside for half an hour
  2. Heat oil in a non stick pan and saute the onions till soft. Add the raw mangoes, turmeric powder, cumin powder and coriander powder. Saute.
  3. Add the grated coconut, prawns/ shrimp, slit green chillies, sugar and 2 cups water. Cover and cook on slow flame for about 5 minutes.
  4. After 5 minutes, stir once and check if more salt is required.
  5. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or till done.
My Tip: Additional 1/2 cup of coconut can be added as per taste.
