ABOUT Naral ani Kothimbir Chi Chutney (Coconut Coriander Chutney) RECIPE

This is a refreshing green chutney served as an accompaniment in a traditional home cooked meal in many Maharashtrian households. I have grown up eating this with thalipeeth (mixed flour pancakes), sabudana vadas, batata vadas, bhajiyas, bhaji-poori combos etc.

Ingredients Serving: 12

  1. Fresh Coriander Leaves - 1 small bunch, about 250 gms, sorted, washed and roughly chopped
  2. Fresh Coconut Pieces - of 1/2 a medium sized coconut
  3. Cumin Seeds/ Sabut Zeera - 1 tsp
  4. Green Chillies - 3-4
  5. Garlic Flakes - peeled, 4-5 (optional)
  6. Lemon Juice - freshly squeezed of 1 juicy medium sized lemon
  7. Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  8. Salt - to taste
  9. Water - 1/4th cup, if required

Instructions

  1. Powder the zeera first in the small jar of the mixer grinder.
  2. Now add the coconut pieces, coriander leaves, garlic flakes, green chillies, sugar, salt to taste and the lemon juice to the same jar and grind again into a smooth, runny texture.
  3. You may add a little water while grinding the chutney to blend all the ingredients well.
