Moongre Moong

Ingredients to make Moongre Moong

  • Moongre (radish pods) - 1/2 cup (destalked and chopped), I took the smaller variety
  • Whole Moong dal (green gram whole) 1/4 + 2 tbsp
  • Potato diced 1/2 cup
  • Onion 1 grated
  • Ginger 1 tsp
  • Garlic 1 tsp
  • Tomato 1 (pureed)
  • Turmeric 3/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1/4 tsp
  • Refined oil 2 tbsp
  • Salt 3/4 tsp or as per taste

How to make Moongre Moong

  1. Rinse and chop the pods. Keep aside.
  2. Pressure cook whole green gram for 2 minutes.
  3. In a pan, heat oil and fry ginger and garlic.
  4. Add onion and fry till slightly brown.
  5. Mix fresh tomato puree and stir till well cooked.
  6. Add salt, turmeric and chilli powder and mix well.
  7. Now add diced potatoes, moongre and whole green gram.
  8. Mix well and cook covered on low heat for atleast 15 minutes, stirring in between and sprinkling some water, if required.
  9. Season with roasted cumin powder and serve with Parantha or rotis
