Homestyle chicken gravy

Ingredients to make Homestyle chicken gravy

  • 1kg- chicken
  • 250gm- onions, grated
  • 250gm- tomatoes, pureed
  • 2 inch piece- ginger, ground
  • 15-20 pods- garlic, peeled and ground
  • 3-4- green chillies
  • 1 bowl- dahi
  • 5-7- cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 3-4 bay leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 1tsp- haldi powder
  • Kashmiri chilli powder as per taste
  • 1.5 tsp- chicken masala
  • oil for frying
  • fresh coriander for garnish

How to make Homestyle chicken gravy

  1. For the marination, take dahi in a bowl. Add salt to taste,chilli powder, ginger n garlic, both in the paste form. Mix well. Add the chicken pieces and marinate for atleast two hours. Refrigerate.
  2. Heat oil in a large pan. Add bay leaves, cloves and cinnamon. Saute. Add ground onions. Fry till oil leaves the sides of the pan. Add tomato puree and slit green chillies. Saute very well till the mixture leaves the side of the pan.
  3. Add salt, chilli powder, haldi powder, garam masala and chicken masala. Saute very well. Put 1/4 cup water. Cook till the masala leaves the sides of the pan and oil floats on the top.
  4. Add chicken pieces and fry till the chicken starts getting tender. Stirring in between. Now add the water as per the thickness of the gravy desired. Cover the pan, cook for another 30-35 mins. Stirring occasionally.
  5. When chicken is properly cooked add fresh coriander. Serve sizzling hot with rice or chapatis.
