About Masoor Pongal ( Spicy ) Recipe

Bored eating Moong Dal Pongal . Try this masoor Dal Pongal for a change . Tastes yum. Moong is highly a coolant and not recommended for children / adults with wheezing issues . So this Pongal could be prepared for them . This is my Mom’s recipe . My mom prefers cooking Masoor Pongal for family members who have wheezing / respiratory issues . A tasty , quick , wholesome breakfast .

Masoor Pongal ( Spicy )

Ingredients to make Masoor Pongal ( Spicy )

  • Red lentil / masoor dal 1.5 cups
  • Raw rice 2 cups
  • hing 1 teaspoon
  • salt to taste
  • ginger 1 inch piece , de skinned, finely chopped
  • Freshly crushed black pepper powder 2 -3 tablespoons
  • ghee 10 tablespoons
  • cumin seeds 1 tablespoon
  • curry leaves 10 -12
  • cashews 15
  • water for Dal 1:2
  • Water for rice 1 : 4

How to make Masoor Pongal ( Spicy )

  1. Take 1.5 cup red lentil .
  2. Take 2 cups rice
  3. Wash rice , lentil . Cook rice and lentil to a mushy texture .Add salt , 1 teaspoon hing before .
  4. Melt 1 tablespoon ghee in a pan . Roast cashews . Transfer to a plate .
  5. Heat 2 tablespoons ghee . Roast 1 tablespoon cumin , 2 tablespoons freshly crushed black pepper.
  6. Finely chopped 1 inch ginger .
  7. Add 12 curry leaves .
  8. Add all these roasted ingredients along with hot ghee to the cooked dal rice mixture .
  9. Mix well so that the ghee is infused thoroughly.
  10. In a pan , melt 4 tablespoons ghee and add to the prepared Pongal for the perfect glossy texture .
  11. Spicy Masoor Pongal is ready to serve . Serve hot with coconut chutney .
