Ingredients to make Daal makhni

  • Whole urad dal 3/4 cup
  • Red kidney beans 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida 1 pinch
  • Jeera 1 tsp
  • Black Cardamom 1
  • Green cardamom 2
  • Cinnamon stick 1 inch
  • Bay leaves 2
  • Cloves 2
  • Garlic paste 3/4 tsp
  • Ginger Paste 1 Tsp
  • Tomatoes 5-6 (puree )
  • Deggi mirch 3 tsp
  • Coriander pwd 2 tsp
  • Amul butter 2 tbsp
  • Kasuri methi 1 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Cream 2 tbsp

How to make Daal makhni

  1. Wash and soak dals for overnight .
  2. Pressure cook with salt and water ( 4-5 cups) . one whistle on high flame , lower the flame for half an hour .
  3. Tadka: Heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida, jeera, whole spices and ginger garlic paste. Let it brown, add tomato puree, deggi mirch, coriander powder, cover the lid and cook till the oil separates. Add butter and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add this tadka and crushed kasuri methi in boiled dal and cook for 5 - 10 minutes.
  5. Add garam masala and cream, cook for 5 minutes, turn off the flame.
  6. Garnish with cream and serve with naan or chapati .
My Tip: We can add boiled water to adjust the consistancy of dal .
