This is a Tamil nadu snack that is made with rice rawa.

Tawala adai or Rice cutlets

Ingredients to make Tawala adai or Rice cutlets

  • 1 cup raw rice, washed and dried in the sun till it's dry
  • 1 tsp toor dal
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp methi seeds
  • 1 tbsp fresh grated coconut
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 red chilli, broken
  • A pinch of asfoetida
  • Few curry leaves
  • oil to fry

How to make Tawala adai or Rice cutlets

  1. Take a kadai and heat 2 tbsp oil, then add mustard seeds, red chilli, asfoetida, curry leaves, coconut, add double the water about 2 cups with salt.
  2. Once it boils, add 1 cup of rawa rice prepared and keep stirring till it absorbs the water.
  3. Make patties and shallow fry in the pan till they brown on both sides.
  4. Serve them with any chutney.

My Tip:

Combine the rice, toor dal, jeera, methi, pepper and blend it coarsely. (Don't seive.)
