Ingredients to make Rawa dosa and palya

  • 1 big potato, boiled and skinned
  • 1 small sized onion, cut finely
  • 1 small sized tomato, chopped
  • 2 green chillies, cut finely
  • 1 inch piece ginger, cut finely
  • 2-3 cloves garlic crushed
  • Few coriander leaves and curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp each of mustard seeds, udad dal and chains dal for seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • To grind:
  • 1 tsp of fresh coconut
  • 1 tsp of saunf
  • 1 tsp of rice powder
  • For the rawa dosa batter:
  • 1 cup rice powder
  • 3/4 cup semolina
  • 1/4 cup atta

How to make Rawa dosa and palya

  1. Take a kadai and heat oil in it, add the seasoning then add onions, green chillies, curry leaves, garlic, ginger pieces and fry it.
  2. Add the tomato, little salt, fry it then add the potatoes, ground masala and turmeric powder. Add water as required and adjust the salt. ( This is called aloo palya, vella kurma in Tamil.)
  3. For the dosa, combine 1 cup of rice powder, 3/4 cup semolina, 1/4 cup attached and salt and water to make a thin batter.
  4. Season the batter with mustard seeds, jeera, sesame seeds, asfoetida, finely cut coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chillies and ginger.
  5. Take a non-stick pan and heat it. Pour the batter over the pan, don't spread it like a regular dosa. Add oil on all sides and cook till its crispy. Cook on other side as well.
  6. Serve with palya and chutney.
