About Channa madra Recipe

It is a Himachal Pradesh cuisine dish which is made with spices and yogurt gravy.

Channa madra

Ingredients to make Channa madra

  • 1 cup soaked boiled chickpeas
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 5 cloves
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1/2 cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp rice
  • salt to taste
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander

How to make Channa madra

  1. Soak the rice overnight for 4-5 hours and grind into a paste. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan on medium heat, temper it with cumin seeds, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and asafoetida.
  3. Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder and saute for a few seconds.
  4. Add boiled chickpeas in it. Cook for sometime and combine it well. Add the whisked yogurt in it and keep stirring for 7-8 minutes.
  5. Now add the ground rice paste, ghee, salt and cook for 4-5 minutes.
  6. Serve with a garnish of chopped coriander.
