Ingredients to make Dal palak

  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 1 cup moong dal
  • water to soak the dals
  • 1 green chilli
  • Whole dry red chillis 4-5
  • 6 garlic flakes
  • salt to taste
  • 1 medium sized chopped onion
  • 2 tsp onion
  • 1 tsp jeera
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  • 1 small 1/2 inch ginger, chopped
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 20 leaves palak

How to make Dal palak

  1. Soak moong dal and urad dal for 20 minutes by adding sufficient water. Add salt, turmeric powder in the dal and boil it.
  2. In the meantime, chop the onion, cut the green chilli and deseed it. Also wash the palak leaves and keep it aside.
  3. Now add oil in the kadai on a medium flame. Then add the cumin seeds till it pops. Add asafoetida and the dry red chillies. Saute it.
  4. Stir fry the chopped onion till it turns translucent. Add in garlic and ginger, saute it.
  5. Then mix in the boiled dal and add the shredded spinach leaves in it along with the lemon juice.
  6. Simmer for 5 minutes and serve it hot.
