Punjabi Rajma

Ingredients to make Punjabi Rajma

  • Kidney beans 1 cup, soaked overnight
  • onions 2, finely chopped
  • ginger-garlic paste 2 tbsp
  • coriander powder 2 tsp
  • cumin powder 1 tsp
  • red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • tomato puree 1/2 cup
  • oil 4 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves 1 tbsp, chopped

How to make Punjabi Rajma

  1. Drain kidney beans and wash in fresh water and put into a pressure cooker. Add 5 cups of water and salt and cook under pressure till 4-5 whistles are given out.
  2. Drain and reserve the cooking liquid.
  3. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add onions and sauté till light brown.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 2 minutes.
  5. Add coriander powder, cumin powder and red chilli powder and mix well.
  6. Add tomato puree and mix again. Sauté for 3-4 minutes.
  7. Add kidney beans and mix well.
  8. Add 1 cup cooking liquid and salt and stir to mix.
  9. Mash the beans a bit and stir again.
  10. Add garam masala powder, mix and cook for 7-8 minutes.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
  12. Enjoy your dope of rajma curry with chawal.
