ABOUT Anasa fanasa RECIPE

A sweet, spicy and tangy preparation with ripe fruits ( pineapple or ananas in Marathi, jackfruit also known as fanas in Marathi and mangoes). This is a seasonal preparation common to konkan coast,Goa and North Karnataka.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Ripe jackfruit deseeded and cut into medium size pieces1 cup
  2. Pineapple chunks. 1 cup
  3. Ripe mangoes 2-3 depending on the size. Remove the peel. Mash coarsely. Keep the seed
  4. Fresh grated coconut 1 cup
  5. Tamarind pulp 2 tbsp
  6. Jaggery 1/2 cup
  7. Salt to taste
  8. For seasoning
  9. Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  10. Asafoetida (hing)1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Grind coconut with enough water to a fine paste
  2. Heat 2-3 tbsp oil in a pan
  3. Add mustard seeds. Let them crackle
  4. Add asafoetida
  5. Add mixed fruits
  6. Add ground coconut paste
  7. Add some more water
  8. Add jaggery and salt to taste
  9. Cook for 4-5 min
  10. Serve hot
