Kothamara Thoran

Ingredients to make Kothamara Thoran

  • 1 cup Guar Bean chopped
  • 1/2 onion chopped
  • 4 or 5 Shallots (small onions)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp rice
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 Dry Red chillies
  • 1/2 cup coconut grated
  • 1/4 tbsp chilli Powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric Powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • A few curry leaves
  • salt to taste

How to make Kothamara Thoran

  1. Grind the coconut, chilli powder, turmeric powder, shallots, cumin seeds and curry leaf and grind together
  2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and when it splutters, add dry red chillies, curry leaves and rice.
  3. When the rice turn into a light brown color and puffs up, add the guar beans and onions. Cover with a lid and cook over low heat.
  4. Now add the ground mixture into the beans when half cooked.Cook for 3-4 mins
  5. Remove the lid, stir fry for another 10 mins on low heat.
  6. Kothamara Thoran is ready
