Idlis are traditionally made with rice. Today I tried these idlis with barley and it came out very soft and fluffy.

Barley Idli with Onion Chutney

Ingredients to make Barley Idli with Onion Chutney

  • 2 cups barley grains
  • 1 cup urad dal
  • 1 tbsp methi seeds

How to make Barley Idli with Onion Chutney

  1. Wash and soak the barley grains along with methi seeds.
  2. Separately soak the urad dal for 5-6 hrs. After 6 hrs grind them separately and mix well.
  3. Ferment this mixture over night.
  4. After it has fermented make soft fluffy idlis in the idli maker.
  5. Serve them hot with any desired chutney.
