About Pizza / Pasta Sauce or Marinara Sauce Recipe

This very versatile tomato sauce can we used as the base for pizzas or be tossed with pasta. This is the classic version of the Italian marinara sauce.

Ingredients to make Pizza / Pasta Sauce or Marinara Sauce

  • 2 kgs fresh tomatoes
  • 1 bunch of basil
  • 2 tblsp olive oil
  • 15 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tsp dried red chilli flakes
  • salt as per taste
  • 2 tsps sugar

How to make Pizza / Pasta Sauce or Marinara Sauce

  1. Wash your tomatoes first. Take out approximately 1 1/2 kgs of tomatoes and roughly chop them and put them in a blender along with half the garlic cloves. Blend until smooth.
  2. Chop the remaining tomatoes into tiny bits. Keep aside.
  3. Chop the remaining garlic cloves and keep aside.
  4. Now, in a large saucepan add in the olive oil. When its slighty warm add in the garlic, red chilli flakes and half a bunch of basil leaves. Let the leaves sizzle.
  5. Add in the pureed tomato mix and cook on high for 10 minutes. Now add in the chopped tomatoes. Bring to a boil and simmer for atleast 30 minutes.
  6. Add in salt and sugar and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Adjust of seasoning. Let it cool. Use as per recipe requirement or store in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.
