White sauce is a basic sauce that's required as the base for many bakes and pasta. This is that recipe

White or Bechamel Sauce

Ingredients to make White or Bechamel Sauce

  • ½ onion
  • 4 cloves
  • 1-2 bay leaves
  • ½ litre milk
  • 2 tblsp butter
  • 2 tblsp all purpose flour
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste

How to make White or Bechamel Sauce

  1. Add onion, cloves, bay leaf and milk into a saucepan. Heat gently until it almost boils. Turn off and keep aside.
  2. In a deep pan, add equal quantity butter and flour. Saute until fragrant. Add half the milk and whisk well.
  3. Add remaining milk, salt and pepper and whisk until thick. Add cheese if required. Use as per the recipe
