Ingredients to make Loittya Macher Jhuri / Spicy Bombay Duck Fried Curry

  • Loittya fish/ Bombil / Bombay duck - 500 gms
  • Onion - 2 ,chopped
  • Ginger paste -1 tsp
  • Garlic paste -1 and 1/2 tsp
  • Tomato -1 chopped
  • Green chillies 1-2
  • Turmeric- 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder -1 tsp
  • Potato -1 ,cut length wise (optional)
  • Brinjal - 1 cut cube shape
  • Salt as required

How to make Loittya Macher Jhuri / Spicy Bombay Duck Fried Curry

  1. Heat a kadai with 4-5 tbsp of mustard oil, add onion and fry till it turns into light brown colour. Now add the ginger-garlic paste and stir it continuously.
  2. Now add tomato, chili ,turmeric, cumin powder and salt to taste. Keep stirring for 2-3 mins, now add the loittya /bombil fish, potato slice, brinjal and mix it well with the masala. Cover it, reduce the flame on a low fire for 8-10 mins while stirring occasionally.
  3. Do not add water as fish will release enough water. After 10 mins, the fish will disintegrate and become a paste form, open the lid and keep stirring until the fish water dries up completely and the oil separates from the fish.
  4. Check the seasoning, the loittya macher jhuri is ready to eat.
  5. Serve it with hot rice.

My Tip:

If you want you can discard the fish bone, blunch the fish for 4-5 mins. Drain the water, make a slit and remove the central bone by simply spreading apart.
