ABOUT Gondhoraj Lebur Dal / Gondhoraj Lemon Dal RECIPE

A very flavourful ,sour , little sweet , mildly spicy thin dal cooked in Bengali style . Whenever i cook this dal i miss my hometown . In Bahrain i did not get Gondhoraj lemon , so i have used it's close relative kaffir lime . In my family we prefer thin dal , if you want thick dal add less water. Currently staying in Bahrain.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Moong dal / masoor dal 1 1/2 cups
  2. Kaffir lime 1 / gondhoraj lime 1
  3. Kaffir lime /gondhoraj leaves 6_7
  4. Mustard oil as needed
  5. Turmeric powder 1/3 tsp
  6. Salt as per your taste
  7. Green chilli 2
  8. For seasoning :
  9. Kalaonji seds 1/2 tsp
  10. Yellow mustard leaves 1/2 tsp
  11. Dry red chilli 2

Instructions

  1. Wash and pressure cook dal with 3 cups of water for 1 whistle with salt , 2 lime leaves and turmeric powder in low heat . Keep aside to release the vapour naturally.
  2. In a big pan heat mustard oil , add dry red chilli , yellow mustard seeds and black cumin seeds in high to medium heat , let mustard seeds splutter
  3. Add boiled dal , simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Add 3 lime leaves and green chillis
  5. Add sugar and lemon juice , check for salt . Add if needed
  6. Serve along with white rice and aloo bhaja for a pure Bengali comfort meal
