Ingredients Serving: 4
Cooked Tuvar Dal - 1/2 cup
Turmeric Powder -1/2 tsp
Drumstick -2 (chopped)
Onion -1 chopped
Shallots -1
Tomato -1 chopped
Salt -to taste
Water -1 cup
Ghee -1 tbsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp ,chopped
For Masala
Gingelly Oil - 1 tsp
Dry red chilli -2
Kashmiri chilli -2 (optional)
Coriander seeds -1 tsp
Black pepper -4
Fenugreek seeds - 4
Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
Channa dal -1 tbsp
Curry leaves -1 sprig
Hing -1/4 tsp
Grated coconut -2 tbsp
Tamarind -gooseberry size
Jaggery - 1 tsp
To temper
Gingelly oil - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Curry leaves- 1 sprig
Red chilli Powder -1 tsp
Instructions
*Heat Oil in a kadai,roast the ingredients given under "For Masala " one by one except tamarind,jaggery ,coconut without burnt.Switch off the flame.
*Now add the cocnut,jaggery and tamarind,mix and let it be cool. grind to a coarse and thick paste.
In a pressure cooker add the onion,shallots ,tomato ,water &turmeric powder.Cook it for 3 whistle.Once the pressure settled down ,open the lid.
Add the ground paste,salt and cooked dal.Mix well and boil it for 5 mins.Finally add the coriander leaves and ghee.Switch off the flame.
Now temper the ingredients given under "To Temper" ,pour over the sambar.
Serve the sambar with Idli,Dosa or Rice
