Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Cooked Tuvar Dal - 1/2 cup
  2. Turmeric Powder -1/2 tsp
  3. Drumstick -2 (chopped)
  4. Onion -1 chopped
  5. Shallots -1
  6. Tomato -1 chopped
  7. Salt -to taste
  8. Water -1 cup
  9. Ghee -1 tbsp
  10. Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp ,chopped
  11. For Masala
  12. Gingelly Oil - 1 tsp
  13. Dry red chilli -2
  14. Kashmiri chilli -2 (optional)
  15. Coriander seeds -1 tsp
  16. Black pepper -4
  17. Fenugreek seeds - 4
  18. Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
  19. Channa dal -1 tbsp
  20. Curry leaves -1 sprig
  21. Hing -1/4 tsp
  22. Grated coconut -2 tbsp
  23. Tamarind -gooseberry size
  24. Jaggery - 1 tsp
  25. To temper
  26. Gingelly oil - 1 tsp
  27. Mustard seeds -1 tsp
  28. Curry leaves- 1 sprig
  29. Red chilli Powder -1 tsp

Instructions

  1. *Heat Oil in a kadai,roast the ingredients given under "For Masala " one by one except tamarind,jaggery ,coconut without burnt.Switch off the flame.
  2. *Now add the cocnut,jaggery and tamarind,mix and let it be cool. grind to a coarse and thick paste.
  3. In a pressure cooker add the onion,shallots ,tomato ,water &turmeric powder.Cook it for 3 whistle.Once the pressure settled down ,open the lid.
  4. Add the ground paste,salt and cooked dal.Mix well and boil it for 5 mins.Finally add the coriander leaves and ghee.Switch off the flame.
  5. Now temper the ingredients given under "To Temper" ,pour over the sambar.
  6. Serve the sambar with Idli,Dosa or Rice
