ABOUT Sojji Appam RECIPE

This is an authentic south indian sweet recipe where sooji stuffing is prepared with coconut and jaggery and stuffed inside maida similar to poli and fried.It tastes heavenly and it is one of my favourite food prepared by my mom during festive times.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bombay Rava/ Sooji - 1 cup
  2. Grated coconut-1/4 cup
  3. Jaggery -1 1/2 cup
  4. Elachi Powder-1/2 teaspoon
  5. Maida -1 1/2 cup
  6. Wheat flour-1/2 cup
  7. Turmeric powder-a pinch
  8. Salt a pinch
  9. Ghee / oil - little

Instructions

  1. In a bowl add maida ,wheat flour, salt and two teaspoon of oil and add required water and knead to make a soft smooth dough.cover and keep it for an hour
  2. Add half cup of water to jaggery and boil. Filter it to remove impurities.
  3. In a kadai dry roast rava for few minutes and keep aside.In the same kadai add 2 1/2 cups of water and when it boils add roasted rava and cook until it is soft.
  4. Add in the filtered jaggery syrup to it along with coconut and cardamom powder and mix well until they are blended well to form thick mass
  5. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool .Divide it into 9-10 equal sized balls. Also divide the maida dough into same amount of balls
  6. Take one dough  ball. Grease your hands with ghee and flatten it with your fingers.Place one sojji ball in the center and close the it without any gap.Flatten this with the fingers like how we do for boli.
  7. Repeat for all the dough and filling
  8. In a hot tawa place one boli and add a teaspoon of ghee and cook well both sides. Or You can also deep fry the same in oil .I have done pan fry
  9. Serve hot
