ABOUT Ghoogni RECIPE

A very famous dish from the east of India that can be used as a wide dish for flat breads or as a base for chaats.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Dried green peas (soaked for 6 hours) 1 cup
  2. Onion 2, chopped
  3. Tomato 2, chopped
  4. Turmeric 1/4th tsp
  5. Coriander powder 2.5 tsp, heaped
  6. Chilli powder 1 tsp
  7. Ginger-Garlic paste 2 tsp, heaped
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Water 3 to 4 cups
  10. For tempering:
  11. Oil 4 tsp
  12. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  13. Jeera 1/2 tsp
  14. Dried chilles 4

Instructions

  1. Take a pressure cooker, add oil and all the tempering listed above and let it splutter.
  2. Add the onion and saute for 2 mins. Then add ginger-garlic paste and other spices along with the tomatoes and cook for 5-10 mins on a low flame till the tomatoes are mushy and a nice aroma spreads.
  3. Next add in the soaked dried peas and water, pressure cook this on a high flame till 4-5 whistles blow. Let the pressure release, then open the lid and adjust the salt as per taste.
  4. Let this dish rest for an hour for it to achieve it's best taste.
