A refreshing chutney made from coconut. Serve with many traditional Kerala dishes in South India

Coconut Chutney

Ingredients to make Coconut Chutney

  • 3/4 cup Fresh coconut (grated)
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp chana dal (roasted)
  • 1 Green chili
  • 1 tsp ginger chopped
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp sugar
  • salt to taste

How to make Coconut Chutney

  1. Grind coconut, green chilli, ginger, chana dal, lemon juice, sugar, salt and some water to make a smooth paste
  2. Check for salt and sugar.
  3. Serve coconut chutney with dosa or idli.

one of the best tasting coconut chutney. tried it..loved it. only thing is adding tempered mustard seeds, red chilli, curry leaves...makes it more yummy. thanks for sharing this lovely recipe

leaves a lot of detail out for instance, channa dar needs to be roasted, there is no mention of the "chownk" or the favoringat the end, with dried red chilli, curry leaves (optional) and rye... that's what makes it yum.
