Music and dance are an integral part of Bollywood movies. No movie is complete without a peppy number and foot-tapping dance. But did you know that many of our Bollywood actors were actually background dancers before they stepped into meaty roles as an actor.
Here are 7 such celebs who started out as background dancers and went on to become successful actors in B-Town:
In spite of being yesteryear actor Pankaj Kapoor’s son, the journey of Shahid Kapoor as an actor was not so easy. The chocolate boy of the film industry had to go through his share of struggles before he was chosen for the lead role in his debut movie ‘Ishq Vishq’. You might be surprised to know Shahid, who had learnt dance under the dance guru Shiamak Davar, was one of the background dancers in the famous song ‘Kahin Aag Lage’ from the movie, ‘Taal’. The song featured Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In fact, Shahid was also one of the background dancers in the song ‘Le Gayi, Le Gayi’ featuring Karishma Kapoor from the movie, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’.
Popularly remembered as ‘Circuit’ from the ‘Munna Bhai’ series, Arshad Warsi also started his career as a background dancer. He danced in the background of the song ‘Help Me’ from the film ‘Aag Se Khelenge’ which starred Jeetendra and Kimi Katkar in the lead roles. Today, he is one of the finest actors of Bollywood!
This came as a shock to me! The cute M.S. Dhoni aka Sushant Singh Rajput was actually a background dancer with Shiamak Davar’s dance company. He danced in the background in the title track of the movie ‘Dhoom 2’ behind Hrithik Roshan! Before being cast as a lead actor in movies, he also appeared in various T.V. serials.
Did you know that Miss Asia Pacific Dia Mirza was earlier a background actor in South Indian Films before she got her first break as an actress? She was amongst the background dancers in the title track of the Tamil movie ‘En Swasa Kaatre’.
The current Textiles minister and yesteryears ‘sanskari’ bahu Tulsi Virani of the famous Balaji serial- ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, Smriti Irani also started her career as a background dancer in the song ‘Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag’ by Mika Singh.
The bubbly actress who played the lead role in the Salman Khan starrer ‘Jai Ho’, was also a background dancer. In fact, Daisy was one of the background dancers in the song ‘Lagan Laagi’, which is from the film ‘Tere Naam’ and the lead actor in this film is none other than Salman Khan! Imagine sharing screen space with Sallu as a background dancer and then as a lead actress – lucky girl, huh!!
The cute actress who played Ajay Devgn’s love interest in the film ‘Singham’ in 2011, had already been a part of a Bollywood project in the year 2003. She played a supporting role and danced in the backdrop of the song ‘Uljhan’e from the movie ‘Kyun! Ho Gaya Na’, which starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi in the lead.
