Does the Colour of the Vagina Matter?

Spread the love

The color of the female body, including hair, eyes, nipples, etc., have been a topic of debate since ages. Now the debate has extended to include the color of the vagina. With more and more women becoming aware of their bodies, it is no surprise that the color of the vagina has become a matter of concern for them too.

1) Every Person is Unique

However, whatever others say about the color of their private parts, remember that each person is unique and therefore has different looking body parts. The same stands true for the vagina also. To put a case in point, take a look at your gums and tongue. Even similarly-colored girls would have these in different shades.

The shade of the vulva of a woman can range from anywhere between bright pink to a darker shade of pink, which can be almost purple, just like the color of the glans – the penis head. The color of the vagina can also be different on different days, depending on the body temperature and the level of arousal.

2) Color of Labia Minor (little lips) Varies

Labia or the little lips are the soft folds of skin that start above the clitoris and end near the vagina. It is the shape and the color of this body part that would be different in each woman. The shape can vary from being very thin to being very large and from hanging out of the outer lips to being well-hidden inside. And just like the color of the scrotum in males, the color of the labia may also range anywhere from a light pink to brick red to being so dark that they appear to be almost brown or purple.

The color variation in the labia means nothing. And no, it means nothing to men also. Blonde women can have a brown labia and dark-skinned women can have a pink labia. It really does not matter. You need to love yourself just the way you are.

3) Reasons why the Vagina might Change Colour

Apart from the dark color of your vagina being absolutely normal, these might be the reasons why the vaginal color might vary.

  • Age – the older one gets, the darker their vagina becomes
  • Hygiene products – products like talcum powder slowly darken the vaginal area
  • Vitamin and mineral deficiency
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Weight gain
  • Hereditary or genes
  • Grooming products
  • Regular shaving
  • Change of product brand
  • Tight clothes
  • Physical disorders like poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), excessive production of melanin, infection, hypothyroidism, etc.

5) Fad Started by Saloons

Many health and medical experts feel that the fad of white or fair vaginas might have been started by salons to rake in the profits that would come from the money that all those women, who are dark down there, would spend to get a fairer vagina.

6) Other Symptoms Warrant Medical Attention

Whatever the color of your vagina is, it should be a matter of concern only when it behaves strangely, as in, it changes color, is itchy, smelly or swollen, has developed pus-filled bumps or is discharging fluid. In this case, you need to visit a doctor immediately.
