Homemade lip scrubs to keep lips soft in winters

Winter brings variety of problems related to skin and one among the most common is chapped lips. It is always better to adopt homemade lip scrubs instead of cosmetic remedies.
Here are a few delicious but very effective and pocket friendly lip scrubs you can prepare at home.
Starting with one of the basics –
1.Brown Sugar and Honey Scrub:

1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 squirt of honey (just enough to mix with brown sugar and make a paste)
1 drop vanilla
Directions – Mix all ingredients together thoroughly and store up to a month in glass jar or tub with lid. Old eye cream jars work great.
To apply: Rub scrub into lips and exfoliate gently. Let it sit for a minute or two, then rinse off with warm water. Apply a generous slather of lip balm afterwards to rehydrate lips. Use 1 or 2 times weekly.


2.Coconut Sugar Lip Scrub:

2 tablespoons softened coconut oil
2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon honey
Directions – Mix ingredients in a small bowl until a grainy paste forms. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.
To apply, spread the coconut sugar scrub over lips and gently massage for 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly with warm water and apply a hydrating lip moisturizing product.

3.Chocolate Lip Scrub Mask:

3 tablespoons white granulated sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
1 small drizzle of honey
Directions –
Mix all ingredients together in small bowl until a gritty chocolate paste forms. If too thin, add additional sugar; if too thick, add additional olive oil and honey. Store in sealed container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.
To apply, swab the lips with a thick glob of chocolate scrub masque and leave on for up to 5 minutes. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water and apply a light coating of lip balm or petroleum jelly.
Although these scrubs are handy throughout the year, here are some winter specials – 
Coffee powder lip scrub: 
You need to mix 1 tbsp of each honey and coffee powder in a bowl to make this winter lip scrub. Get both the ingredients mixed well. Use this scrub for your lips while massaging gently in a circular motion for 2 minutes. Wash
your lips with lukewarm water and follow with a good quality of lip balm to keep your chapped lips hydrated and smooth.

Milk and rose petal lip scrub: 
Take 10-20 petals of the rose with a little quantity of milk in a small bowl. Crush the rose petals in it. Now take a small amount of this homemade lip scrubs to apply on your dry lips. After 2 minutes wash your lips with lukewarm water an apply lip balm to keep your lips hydrated.

Homemade lip scrubs made using Vitamin E:
You will need only 1 tsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of vitamin E, 1 tbsp of brown sugar, and 1 tbsp of organic honey to get rid of chapped lips. Blend all the ingredients in a bowl. Apply this scrub on your dry lips to remove dull skin. Make sure; you are applying lip balm after using this remedy to get smooth and beautiful lips.

Sugar with cinnamon:
Another homemade lip scrub for chapped lips is the combination of sugar and cinnamon. Both the ingredients would be readily available at your kitchen as the sugar helps is used in making variety of sweet dishes along with tea. Cinnamon is also a wonderful spice that add flavor to Indian dishes. You have to make powder of cinnamon stick and add have spoon of it in small container. Also add white sugar of half spoon in it and mix them with little honey. Apply it over your lips and slowly rub your lips with finger tips. Now wash it and see the difference.Coconut Oil not your thing, try this one –
Olive oil and brown sugar:
You need to take a spoon of brown sugar and make it powder. There after you have to take 2 spoons of olive oil. Mix both the ingredients together and apply on your lips. Use your finger tips over your lips and slowly rub it. This will remove the entire dead skin layer. The process of exfoliation will persist for long to stay away from dead skin layer.

Lemon and baking powder:
It is quite easy to get baking powder in your kitchen. Amazingly wonderful applications can be made with the help of baking powder as well as lemon. You also need to add honey within the process. Yes, the combination will be half spoon of baking powder, half soon of lemon juice and a single spoon of honey. Mix them all really well and apply over your lips. Use it over your lips and use fingers to rub it over your lips.

Ginger Honey:
Honey – 1 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp
Fresh ginger in grated form – 1 tsp
First of all place the mixing bowl in an even surface. Now add the grated piece of ginger in it. Slowly add sugar and honey. Now take a spoon to mix all the ingredients well. Once a thick gel like appearance is formed apply it over your lips. Apply your touch to rub it gradually. This will take away the lifeless skin away from lips. Keep it for 20 minutes. Then wash it off with the damp cloth. You can see your lips have become soft and smooth.If you feel sugar is too harsh for your lips try this –
Almond lip scrubs:

Almond in grated form – half spoon
Honey – 1 tsp
Essential oil – 2-3 teaspoon
Mixing bowl – 1
Spoon – 1
Place the mixing bowl on the top of the table. Now add a spoon of almond in grated form. Add the essential oil of around 2-3 drops in it. Now you can add honey to the mixing bowl. This is the time to use a spoon for mixing. Try mixing it really well so that all the ingredients gets mixed. Now apply it over your lips with your finger tips. You can use tooth brush to slowly rub the surface. Keep for 15 to 20 minutes and wash with Luke warm water.Soon you will get supple and glowing lips to show off.
