In this fast-changing world, there are many developments being done to cater to our needs. One such advancement was seen when the Sattvik Council of India or SCI announced the launch of the world’s first certification for vegetarian food. The Sattvik Council of India’s main objective is to “create a Food Safety Environment especially for the vegetarian consumers of India and global markets by creating SOPs in all applicable areas potential for guaranteeing 100% vegetarian environment”.

The Sattvik Council of India launched this program in partnership with Bureau Veritas, which is one of the world’s leading certifying bodies. The former chief minister of Haryana, Bhupinder Singh Hooda Santosh Gangwar, Amit Ghosh, Vagish Pathak, and a few more were present at this launch. The main objective of this initiative is to provide assurance to vegetarian consumers that the food they are consuming is prepared under strict guidelines. It is offering four different kinds of certification: “Sattvik Sattvam, Sattvik Vegetarian, Sattvik Vegan, and Sattvik Jain. A similar food certification also exists to cater to Islamic and Jewish food standards.

Highlighting the importance of this initiative, Abhishek Viswas, the founder of Sattvik Council of India said: “Globally, people are converting to vegetarianism in a big way after Covid. Veganism is also catching up fast in many countries. By bringing standards and certification, we want to promote vegetarianism and veganism with purity assurance. With a certifying partner like Bureau Veritas on board, the world is the target”.
