Eyes play a major role in your day to day activities and straining your eyes will only lead to eye diseases like short myopia, cataracts, glaucoma, hyperopia. The muscles in your eyes also need enough relaxation similar to that of your other body muscles. Though exercises will help you to ease out the strained eye muscles and let them relax, that is no assurance on complete recovery from any serious eye illness.
Practicing these exercises regularly will help you stay away from eye irritation, puffiness, and protect your retina from further damage. Listed below are a few eye exercises which you can follow every day for a few minutes amidst your hectic schedule as they are quite simple and easy!
1) Palm Massage to Eyes
2) Eye Rotations
Eye rotations help to improve the health of your retina. You can try any or all of the following every day.
- Up and down – Look up to the ceiling and wait for 5 seconds. Similarly look down on the floor and wait for 10 seconds. Repeat this set 3-4 times.
- Right and left – Look to your right for 5 seconds and look at your left for 5 seconds without turning your head. Repeat this 3 – 4 times.
- Rotate – With your head and body erect, either in a sitting or standing posture, look to your right, up, to your left and down to the floor quickly. Repeat this 10-15 times.
- Hold tight and open wide – Close your eyes and hold tight for 5 seconds and release. Similarly, open wide for 5 seconds and release. Repeat this 3- 4 times.
- Top right and left – Look to the top right corner for 5 seconds and then to the left corner for 5 seconds. Similarly, look at the bottom right corner and left corner for 5 seconds each. Repeat this 3 – 4 times.

4) Zoom In and Out
5) Draw a Virtual ‘8’
6) Sunlight
This exercises help immensely in improving retinal health and reducing ocular inflammation. They are also very good for the brain.
