About Idli -Moong Dal Recipe

A very healthy twist to our very own rice Idli. Make this moong dal Idlis and serve it with kerela style tomato onion chutney and mint and coconut chutney.

Idli -Moong Dal

Ingredients to make Idli -Moong Dal

  • moong dal 1/4 cup
  • Poha / chiwda 2-3 tbsp ( for fermentation)
  • salt to taste
  • Grated carrot optional

How to make Idli -Moong Dal

  1. Soak the rice over night. Soak moong dal alongside. In the morning, soak poha for 15 minutes in water and grind rice, poha and moong dal together. Grind coarsely .
  2. Let the mixture ferment for 4-5 hours (in summers it may take lesser time to ferment ) Once fermented add salt and semi cooked carrots before steaming the idlis.
  3. Steam idlis and serve hot with mint chutney/ Coconut chutney/ Red tomato chutney.

My Tip:

If you are making these idlis in a cold weather, add a bit of soda (bi carb) to ferment faster.
