ABOUT Traditional Double ka Meetha (Hyderabadi Special).... RECIPE

As the name suggests, it is native to Hyderabad City. Made with fried bread, nuts and ghee, it is the most easily done and the end result is something so rich and delish that everyone will just love to dig in. And come to think of it, plain bread is used for this preparation and yet it is so delicious. Serve it warm or chilled, it is the best either ways. No important occasion is complete without this royal dessert in the city. There is that unique Indian touch to this dessert that makes it so very special and the most loved one too. Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Loaf bread uncut 1
  2. Sugar 1/2 cup
  3. Water 1/2 cup
  4. Mawa or khoya 1 cup
  5. Milk 1/2 litre
  6. Cardamom pods 3-4
  7. Ghee 2 tsp
  8. Almonds slivered 10
  9. Cashewnuts chopped 12
  10. Raisins 12
  11. Saffron strands 4-5 (dipped in milk)
  12. Melon seeds 2 tbsp
  13. Oil or ghee for fying bread 2 cups

Instructions

  1. First of all cut the bread loaf into triangles or small cubes.
  2. Or just cut each slice into two from the centre. You can do it any way you prefer.
  3. Dry them until crisp under the fan inside the house for a day or two.
  4. Deep fry these dried pieces in oil or ghee and drain on an absorbent paper.
  5. Meanwhile make a one string consistency sugar syrup and pour on the bread arranged in a dish.
  6. Add crushed cardamom to the syrup.
  7. Boil milk and simmer on a low heat.
  8. Add crushed mawa to it and mix well after it is boiled nicely and the raw smell vanishes.
  9. Shallow fry all the nuts in ghee and keep aside.
  10. Pour this thickened milk along with the saffron dipped milk on the bread and sprinkle fried nuts on top.
  11. Let the bread soak all the milk for 1-2 hours.
  12. Chill it in the refrigerator by keeping it well covered.
  13. Enjoy it at iftaar meals with your loved ones and guests.
  14. A perfect dessert to enjoy at dinner time in Ramadan or as a part of Eid celebrations.
