Ingredients to make Pidiyum Kozhiyum (rice dumplings with chicken )

  • Roasted rice flour - 2 cups
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • jeera - 1/4 tsp
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • water- 1 litre
  • shallots/Cheriya ulli - 8-10
  • Sliced garlic cloves - 4
  • curry leaves: 1 sprig
  • For Seasoning:
  • salt: 1/2 tsp or as needed
  • jeera - 1/4 teaspoon
  • For thickening the gravy:
  • Roasted rice flour - 1 tablespoon
  • coconut milk: 1/2 cup

How to make Pidiyum Kozhiyum (rice dumplings with chicken )

  1. Take roasted rice flour in a broad vessel.
  2. Grind cocunut, water and rice flour. Mix well and keep aside
  3. Add water into a pan add shallots, garlic, curry leaves, salt and bring to a boil.
  4. Pour this boiling water to the rice flour cocunut and jeera mix and form into a dough. (Add water slowlyand mix, otherwise it will be watery)
  5. Allow it to cool little. Make lemon sized balls from it.
  6. If there is remaining water keep it in sim or else add more water so that all the balls will be immersed. Adjust the water quantity according to the number of dumplings.
  7. Allow it to get cooked for 5-7min. After that gently give a turn.
  8. Now mix the remaining rice flour with cocunut milk. Avoid lumps and add it to the dumplings. Don't allow to boil. Only a slight heat / simmer for 2-3 min.
  9. The mix will get thickened.
  10. Rice dumplings or pidi is best served with chicken prepared with roasted cocunut masala . Please refer my Varutharacha mutton recipe. Replace mutton and adjust the cooking time.
