Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Tomato 1 kg to 1 1/2 kg (Grind tomatoes into puree and keep aside)
  2. oil as required.
  3. Mustard seeds 1 tbsp
  4. salt as per taste
  5. turmeric powder 1/2 tbsp
  6. Kashmiri red Chilli powder 3 tbsp
  7. hing 1/2 tbsp
  8. Dry powder: (Dry roast and grind coarsely)
  9. coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  10. Red Chilli 4 to 5
  11. Sesame seeds 1 tbsp (white)


  1. In a pan add oil and mustard seeds. Once the seeds crackle, add the tomato puree and mix well (You can add ginger garlic paste).
  2. Add salt, turmeric powder, hing and kashmiri red Chilli powder and mix well. Close the lid. Cook for 15 minutes until simmer. Add the dry powder 1 to 1 1/2 tbsp. Cook for 10 minutes on simmer. Add some gingelly or sesame oil.
  3. Turn off the flame. Let it cool and store in air tight container. Enjoy your tomato pickle/ thoku with hot steamed rice, idli, dosa etc.
