ABOUT Hyderabadi Khichdi Recipe RECIPE

Hyderabadi Khichadi is a very traditional meal in Hyderabadi cuisine, made with rice and masoor dal, added with some aromatic spices to make an easily digestible and filling dish.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1/2 cup masoor dal
  2. 1 cup Rice
  3. 1 tea spoon ginger garlic paste
  4. Salt to taste
  5. 1 medium onion
  6. 3 Green chilies
  7. 3 Cardamom
  8. 5 Pepper Corns
  9. 3 Cloves
  10. 2 small cinnamon stick
  11. 2 bay leaves
  12. Water as required
  13. 1 tbsp Mint leaves chopped
  14. 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  15. 2 tbsp ghee
  16. 2 tbsp Oil
  17. 2 tbsp yogurt

Instructions

  1. Soak the rice and masoor dal, in separate bowls for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add bay leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, pepper, roast it.
  3. Then add green chilies, sliced onions, salt, turmeric, ginger garlic paste and cook this till raw flavor is gone.
  4. Then add curd (optional), rice, masoor dal, water, chopped mint and coriander leavesand cook it with closed lid till rice is done.
  5. At last, add ghee on top of the rice and put the lid on for few minutes.
