ABOUT CHEESY ONION DROP BISCUITS RECIPE

These savoury biscuits with cheese and onion flavour are perfect with a bowl of hot soup. They taste better when they are freshly baked. I prefer making a small quantity to finish on the same day.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Diced onion .... 1/4 cup
  2. All purpose flour .. 3/4 cup
  3. Baking powder ..... 1/8 tsp
  4. Baking soda ........ 1/8 tsp
  5. Salt ...................... 1/8 tsp
  6. Butter.......... 1 tbsp
  7. Grated cheese ...... 1/4 cup
  8. Milk .................... 1/3 cup

Instructions

  1. Place the diced onions in a bowl and microwave on high for 1-2 minutes until translucent. Alternately you may also saute in a pan with little butter.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Tip in the grated cheese and onions.
  4. Stir in the milk until moistened. You may also use buttermilk instead.
  5. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead to mix everything.
  6. Pat or roll out into a circle and cut into four pieces. If you want them in perfect round shape flatten them using some flour.
  7. Place them 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 450 F (230 C) for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown,
  9. They are a perfect accompaniment for soups in winter.
