ABOUT Sugarcane Juice Vella Dosai RECIPE

Vella Dosai is yet another dosa variety prepared from wheat flour and jaggery These sweet dosas are usually made on certain days of fasting like Sivarathri, Ekadasi, Shasti etc. Since they are made out of wheat flour. Again in this dosa recipe, for a change I have prepared with sugarcane juice, instead of mixing with water and jaggery, (I have added only a small amount of jaggery). Try out this yummy recipe and offer as naivedyam to Lord Shiva and get his blessings.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Wheat flour - 1 cup
  2. rice powder - 1/2 cup
  3. Sugarcane juice - 1 1/2 cups (if needed add some more)
  4. jaggery (powdered) - 1/4 cup
  5. cardamom powder - 2 pinches
  6. cardamom powder - 2 pinches
  7. Finely grated fresh coconut - 1/4 cup
  8. salt - a pinch
  9. ghee - to preapare dosas


  1. Add half a cup of sugarcane juice in a pan and let it boil.
  2. Add powdered jaggery and allow It to dissolve completely.
  3. Strain it and keep aside.
  4. Mix wheat flour rice powder, salt, cardamom powder, dry ginger powder, finely grated fresh coconut to the strained jaggery syrup and the remaining sugarcane juice.
  5. Mix well without any lumps. (just whip it in the mixie for a minute.)
  6. Grease and heat a dosa tawa and preapare dosas using ghee .
  7. Yummy sugarcane juice wheat vella dosas are ready to serve. Serve with butter.
