ABOUT SPICY PRAWN CURRY RECIPE

A tongue-tingling curry, perfect for cool, rainy days.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Fresh grated coconut 1 cup
  2. Onion (roughly chopped) 1
  3. Garlic 2-3 cloves
  4. Ginger 1 inch piece
  5. Tomato (chopped) 1
  6. Turmeric Powder 1/2 Tsp.
  7. Dried red chillies 3-4 (previously soaked for 10 mins)
  8. Coriander seeds 1 tsp. (soak with the chillies)
  9. Tamarind pulp 1 tbsp.
  10. Garlic cloves 2 (finely chopped)
  11. Malvani Masala 1 tsp.
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Remove the Shell, de-vein and wash the prawns well. Marinate with a little salt and turmeric powder.
  2. Grind the coconut, onion, garlic, ginger, red chillies, coriander seeds, tomato and turmeric to a fine paste.
  3. Heat oil in a large pan. Add garlic; just as it turns brown, add the ground masala as well as the malvani masala and saute for about 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the tamarind pulp and water (as per consistency desired). Bring to a boil.
  5. Add the prawns, adjust the seasoning and simmer until prawns are cooked. (Never over cook prawns. 5-7 minutes are usually enough).
  6. Garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with steamed rice or rotis.
