ABOUT Mohanthaal RECIPE

Sindhi sweet, prepared especially during diwali and other festivals.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. 1 1/2 cup Besan (chana dal flour)
  2. 1/2 cup Rawa
  3. 1 cup ghee
  4. 1 1/4 cup Sugar
  5. 1/2 cup Milk
  6. 1/3 cup water
  7. 8-10 Elaichi (Cardamom) (ground)
  8. 10-12 Almonds (thinly shredded)

Instructions

  1. In a vessel, add water and sugar.
  2. Boil and simmer for 5-7 minutes till one string chashni is made.
  3. In a dry kadai, add rawa. Roast it on sim gas for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Now, add besan and ghee. Stir continuously on low flame, till the mixture turns golden-brown.
  5. Add elaichi powder, milk and 100 gms of khoya (optional) and mix well and switch off the gas stove. This mixture will expand due to the addition of milk.
  6. Keep stirring the mixture and simultaneously add the chashni (sugar syrup).
  7. Grease a thali.
  8. When the mixture is warm, pour it in the thali.
  9. Sprinkle the shredded almonds on the Mohanthal and press it lightly with a spatula or a spoon.
  10. Cut into pieces.
  11. After an hour, you can remove the pieces from the thali.
  12. Mohanthal is ready.
