About Veg Sambar Recipe

Its a recipe which has toor dal,vegies,tomato and onions.You can add any vegetable to your choice.

Veg Sambar

Ingredients to make Veg Sambar

  • 3/4 cup toor dal
  • 2 medium sized ripe tomatoes
  • 2 medium sized onion thinely sliced
  • 2 carrot an radish each,sliced
  • 1/2 tesp turmeric powder
  • salt as per taste
  • 3 tesp chilli powder
  • 4 tesp coriander powder
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • Thick tamrind juice 3 tbsp
  • water as required
  • oil 2 tbsp
  • Seasoning : ( 1/2 tesp mustard seeds,1/2 tesp urad dal,1/4 tesp fenugreek seeds,dry red chilli 2,1/2 tesp jeera,1/2 tesp asafodita and few curry leaves )

How to make Veg Sambar

  1. Wash and pressure cook dal with 1 cup water and chopped tomatoes for 2 to 3 whistle,dal should be mushy.
  2. In a deep cooking pan add oil,place on medium heat
  3. Add the seasoning ingredients and stir.
  4. Now add curry leaves and onions,saute till onions are soft
  5. Add veggies mix well,add chilli powder ,turmeric, coriander powder and salt.,mix well
  6. Add 2 cups of water and with pan covered cook the vegetables.
  7. Remove the cooked dal, cool it,add to a mixer jar and make a fine paste of it .
  8. Add this to the cooked vegetables,along with the tamarind juice.
  9. Let boil for 10 minutes,sprinkle coriander leaves
  10. Add little water if it's too thick when boiling.
  11. Remove serve hot with rice.
